Chester FC, Lookers Vauxhall Stadium, Bumpers Lane, Chester CH1 4LT

Located outside the city centre in the Sealand Road Industrial Estate, the stadium is notable for straddling the England-Wales border. The pitch itself is in Wales (Flintshire), with the front gates and main office in England.

 

Away fans are normally housed in part of the Centurion Community Stand on one side of the pitch.

 

NOTE: With free admission on offer, under 18s may be asked for proof of age.

 

Facilities for disabled supporters:

The Club says disabled fans encounter many frustrations on match days due to the neglect of the stadium by the owners of the now defunct Chester City. Blind people no longer have access to an audio commentary while wheelchair users find their view of the pitch blocked by the dugout roofs and managers/coaches standing in their technical areas.

 

How to get there:

 

By car:

Stay on the M56 until its end and then continue along the A494 towards Queensferry and North Wales. Take the A548 turn off towards Chester & Flint and at the roundabout take the first exit towards Chester (A548).

At the next roundabout again go left continuing along the A548 towards Chester. Stay on this road and after passing the Lookers Vauxhall Dealership on the left, turn right at the next set of traffic lights into Sovereign Way. Continue until you see the Stadium on the right.

 

Car parking:

There is plenty of car parking available at the stadium for a charge, but it can be quite difficult to get away easily after the match.

 

By train:

Chester railway station is over two miles from the stadium. Leave the station by the main exit opposite the Town Crier, and turn right into Station Road. Head between the Egerton Arms and the Railway Inn, and at the end of the street enter the underpass. In the underpass look for the first exit and then steps signed for Frodsham Street. Head towards the Oddfellows Arms, but just before the bridge turn right into Gorse Stacks. When reaching the crossroads by the Bull & Stirrup go straight over into Canal Street and on under the dual carriageway ring road. At the next junction turn left, past Telford's Warehouse on the right and over the canal. The road then divides. Take the right hand option, South View Road. At the T-junction at the end of South View Road turn right. You are now in Sealand Road. Carry along Sealand Road for half a mile or so until you see Bumpers Lane on your left. The stadium is about half a mile down Bumpers Lane.

 

By bus:

A Rail Link bus runs to the city centre bus exchange every 10 minutes and from there the No. 10 runs along Sealand Road.

 

Where to drink:

 

The Social Club at the stadium admits away supporters for an entrance fee. However it only has a capacity of 120, so can soon be full. There are not many drinking outlets near to the stadium, but the nearby Megabowl has a bar.

 

Chester City Centre is a good 20 minute walk away from the stadium. Near to the train station down by the canal is the excellent Old Harkers Arms which serves good food and ale. Also worth a visit are the Mill Hotel, which is also canalside and serves a large selection of real ales and the Ship Victory on George Street. Also in the City Centre on Northgate Street is the Pied Bull, which along with the Old Harkers Arms and the Mill Hotel is listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. Whilst on Foregate is Wetherspoon’s Square Bottle.

 

Where to eat:

Food on offer inside the ground includes pies, burgers and hot dogs.

from there.
