Stevie_J
I think if, like me, you were brought up on Royle's team of long-term permanent Oldham players (or an earlier era than that) then you're bound to crave that over the current situation where players on two-year deals are deemed long-term and half the team is made up of loanees and short-term contracts and the other half of players hopefuly talented enough to prompt a bigger club into plucking them away. I suppose younger fans don't know any different. The poor buggers.
SavageTheBeast
Just looking at the team 6 players are on short term contract or are on loan. This is very worrying

Aarondo Westy
What do you find worrying about it? well if we do well players on short terms/loans may move onwards/bk to parent club. on the flip side also if we do :censored: short terms/ loans less bothered about it as long term future lies away from bp. Bristolatic
5pm I thinkCould well be wrong here, but I've a feeling it could be up to 12 noon on the day of the game. Didn't this happen with Mark Hudson? His shirt went on the team bus, but he joined the squad in London on the day we played at Brentford IIRC. Prepared to be corrected on this. oafc1955
Bang on the money there Bristol.... 41.3 Subject to Regulations 41.4 and 41.5, a Player will only be eligible to play in a match organised by The League if the appropriate forms for his Standard Loan, Emergency Loan, Youth Loan or Emergency Loan of a goalkeeper transfer are received (including by facsimile) and found to be in order by the Executive: 41.3.1 in respect of any fixture played on a weekday when the Office is normally open, at least three hours before the match; or 41.3.2 in respect of any other fixture: (a) 12 noon on the day of the match; or ( at least three hours before the match, whichever is the earlier. GlossopLatic
Loan signings can really help the squad if you firstly pick the right player, and secondly they are here for the long run. But the amount of times we have brought in a player in a one month loan who proves to be very mediocre you just think Wtf. In this era where PL clubs are stock pilling young players in their academies they are usually very cheap to bring in and their are a lot of them. Too many give the squad an imbalance and from a fans point of view you can't build an affinity with the team if the squad changes every month or so. I think the rule needs to be changed and the amount of players a team can loan should be cut probably halfed from what is now. So in conclusion I think the loan system can be a good thing but in the last few years it's become abit of a farce and needs reducing from a maximum of 5 in a squad to a maximum of 3. jmantonhoward
All I know is Chelsea take the absolute p*** out of the loan system. How? It's their way of getting around ffp (even more so when it was a stricter rule). They buy young talent, loan them out to get first team football, then sell them on at a higher price. It isn't taking the piss, just a different way of doing things.
