Diego_Sideburns
sure that was Scarboughs manager just before we stuck seven past them in 89 league cup After Scarborough had knocked out Chelsea over two legs.
dec666
The draw and the reaction to it for me sharpens the focus of where we are as a club and a set of fans? We are playing a team 12 places below in the league and we arrogantly talk of them as thugs, as a team below our disdain etc Truth is we are 18th in the 3rd division .....again. Let's cut the arrogance and get real? So you'd be perfectly fine with us losing to Mansfield Town of League Two, but we're the problem? NewBlue
We're meant to be excited about Mansfield? Get on their forum and they will be saying the exact same things about us, despite not being higher than us for probably 50 years and battering them 4-1 last time. They were thugs last time we played them - they broke one of our player's jaws maliciously.
Magister
Of course I would be upset to lose to mansfield. However if we did it would be unlikely to attract a comment or mention in the press outside of either town. My point is that it is not a game beneath the likes of Oldham Athletic. To the neutral we are an ordinary long standing 3rd division outfit. We have had 19 years to realise that but have we? I say no and we somehow want to dismiss the Mansfields the Colchesters The Gillinghams The Port Vales etc as somehow inferior and privileged to be playing us. They aren't . They are like us genuine clubs seeking to do their best for their fans

Just disappointment at an uninspiring tie and, absolutely spot on comments, about their thugish behaviour last time.

perfectOzblue
Not entirely sure I follow your post Magister. Pretty sure everyone here is (painfully!) aware this is the level Latics are (permanently?) at now, but equally we have to think we can beat Mansfield Town surely? Not arrogance, just a belief that we have some decent players and should be better than them even without home advantage?

celliott83
The chairman's missus, who is a former escort, said pre game 'when we play Liverpool' and 'we can beat Oldham.' I also remember a game there with 3 players sent off and Fitz Hall scoring a 90th min winner from the spot and he showing his steady hand. The stewards then held us back in the stand to allow the Mansfield fans to congregate at the away end and allow them to chuck coins at us. We were then shepherded through the directors car park and watched some nice cars get some lovely new racing stripes via the coins that had been kindly given to us. A good day all round

24hoursfromtulsehill
The fact is that Mansfield scabbed it in the miners strike. At 31 years, that hatred is still very young and fresh.

Didn't she say that prior to the Mansfield v Liverpool game on BT, when the winner would be away to us? Therefore, can't knock her for that... TheBigDog
Yep we beat them 4-1 last time with a cracking equaliser from Philiskirks free kickGoal scorers that day were Danny Philliskirk, Jonson Clarke-Harris, Matteo Lanzoni and Adam Rooney, after Ross Dyer had put the home side into a half-time lead. We did have some half decent strikers - whatever happened to Lanzoni?
