Dunn supports the Playershare scheme

Article on the clubs official site. Thanks for all the fundraising and support.

Manager David Dunn has signed up for the Playershare scheme and is encouraging Latics supporters to do the same.

The recent signing of Ricardo Fuller was as a result of Playershare funds and the manager is keen to give the scheme his full support.

Dunn said: I had heard about the Playershare scheme and how beneficial it has been to previous managers, and Im very thankful Ive been able to bring in a quality player like Ricardo Fuller as a result of the funds.

The fundraising efforts of fans is amazing and I want to give this scheme all the backing I can."

On average the Playershare campaign raises over £10,000 a year through the efforts of only a small number of fans. Last season, for the first time, two players (George Elokobi and Rhys Murphy) were brought to the club as a result of Playershare.

Playershare funds have been used to help in the past with the cost of players such as Luke Beckett, Shefki Kuqi and Cedric Evina and the committee is hoping to get more supporters contributing in a number of ways.

I'd be interested to see a full list of the playershare signings to date. And actually how many of them have made a serious impact on performances.

I don't contribute purely because we seem to sign too many 3rd rate bench warmers with it. If it was saved up and used on the star striker we need or the dog of war captain we have missed for years I'd be tempted to change my mind

Many of our previous loanees are now playing at a higher level, some internationals.

I wasn't aware it was playershare that funded Beckett. Is that the last time it was used successfully?

Playershare didn't, the trust did, but it is used as an example Playershare funding because of the close links to Playershare and the trust by those (previously) high up in both organisations.
