yarddog73
Never given a chance, his predecessor was in place before a ball was kicked and our esteemed board effectively undermined him from the start, as much as it was a strange appointment you couldn't judge him on his time with us unless you wanted to listen to unsubstantiated rumour that was banded about at the time from those who had an agenda. I thought we played better and more entertaining football under Kelly than Dunn (albeit on a marginal difference.)
IceStationLatic
Is the rumour, about why Dunn signed, that was proved completely true by his appointment? He wasn't given a chance because his CV was shown up as a complete over-sell (that somehow wasn't exposed at interview or by references), the board had to step in and make our signings because he had no contacts, and our pre-season form was shocking. They realised a reckless appointment was a complete cock-up. Dunn was a quick-fix as they didn't want another Holden episode. Sheridan was the well-executed rescue mission. singe
Hyde fan here. Can someone give me a precis of what exactly was the problem with Kelly? Out of his depth? Too nice? What? Some of those on here defending Kelly are only doing it to try to lay all the blame at our Board. Kelly did not make the probation period as coach of the Sunderland Under 9's before being appointed here. It was simply a jump too far. He had a professional CV company promote him. We have a Board member that had occasion to use the words "Due Dilligence" a bit before monumentally failing to do any. Clearly the Board appointed the wrong man and deserve much stick for that, but Kelly applied too and over stated his case. 60/40. A classic case of bull:censored: bafflng brains. You only have to look at his results this season. For 3 teams. Maybe it will work out for him at Hyde, maybe not. I think most of us would happily lay a reasonable sum on you struggling by Christmas. but who knows. Funny old game.
Kusunga_Is_God
A huge mistake by the board but he should have never applied, eyebrows were raised about his alleged 'contacts' he promised when he got the gig but Corney and Joe Royle along with others had to bring in the players for the seasonThe only player he brought in was Gavin Gunning, a man who could barely run properly and had a 2 month trial and then was given a contract for the sake of it but was then terminated after 26 days.We had our goalkeeping coach looking for players he'd coached on frees as well. Then he did the same at Halifax. doctor evil
I don't understand how anyone can say Kelly shouldn't have applied. Nothing wrong with being (very) ambitious. He was just lucky he ran into boardroom of buffoonery.
Stagger Lee
Hyde fan here. Can someone give me a precis of what exactly was the problem with Kelly? Out of his depth? Too nice? What? Kelly was a dodgy used car salesman - and our idiot stooges on the board bought the shiny cheap car without looking under the bonnet or even check if it had 4 wheels. You can blame Kelly for misrepresentation but at the end of the day our board bought into his bull:censored: without checking. It could be worse for you. You could've appointed Dunn.
