Guest nonaenever
When was the last time somebody on this forum said that refereeing errors went in our favour? As far as I can see nobody has mentioned Erwin missing with his header in the first half from 6 yards, nobody has criticised Dunne for his foul, nobody has crticised Fane for a stupid foul and red card .....but everybody wants a piece of the ref. Try reading the site - on another thread I said we were poor and didn't deserve anything (as did several others) but there is no denying that was an awful referee - not just bad but truly awful and he should never ref again. A lot of people see it that way - Ian Cheeseface on BBC is renowned for not criticising refs - yet he has done a specific broadcast about ours yesterday ! Guest nonaenever
Corruption is rife in sport; that we know. It would be naive to think it does not go on in refereeing. I am making no accusations about any individual whatsoever, this is a general observation; who is in the best position to influence the end result of a game? So, odds of 5-1 are available on a side winning a particular game. The ref (or a mate of his acting in collusion) places a £500 bet at a bookies in a town away from his home town (avoids suspicion and harder to track - the amount wagered is not too large to raise eyebrows either). During the game a soft penalty is awarded to the unfancied side and maybe a stonewall penalty not given to the fancied side - along with decisions to thwart the fancied side. Nice £2,500 pay day - done four/five times a season - lovely annual tax free bonus. What measures are in place to minimise this risk? Does anyone know? The bookmakers have very sophisticated software looking for " surprise " repeat bets. The FA appoint referees late, all mobile phones and TVs are banned from referee rooms etc Do older posters on here remember us beating Wimbledon 6-2 at home in the premier league. That game seemed a scam. We could not score so Fashanu came back for a corner and planted one in his own net....Segers the keeper took a free kick near the touch line and " miskicked" it to the edge of the box allowing us a tap in,.......I am also very suspicious of Segers performance ar Everton in the last game of the season ....allegedly

yarddog73
Andy Haines is fourth official for the Leeds v Huddersfield game, not sure if that's a demotion or a polite way of giving him an easier week than last.
Magister
Umm so officiating in a fierce local derby involving the top of the Championship in front of 25,000 is a demotion from officiating in league one in front of 3700?.....

I'd say his rank and pay have reduced to 'fourth official' from 'referee'
Magister
The air in the Oldham Athletic bubble gets more rarified by the day......Haines has refereed over 350 football league games and has been appointed to officiate in a Championship Derby....but we want to believe that he has lost all credibility with the football authorities because he did not give Oldham Athletic a penalty! Magister
Saturday's game was the 625th football league game Haines has refereed. That is quite remarkable......especially as the cognoscenti on here think he knows nothing about refereeing and want to believe that being chosen to officiate in a game which will attract 30,000 is a demotion and a sign of loss of credibility. He might not have had his best game on Saturday but that is a remarkable CV and one which has to command respect. The abuse and vitriol on here tells me more about the subjective and blinkered fan than it does about somebody who by anybody's standards has contributed much to football. he has probably refereed more games than many of his accusers on here have watched Why is it wrong for a referee to have a bad game when we support a team who usually have 3 or 4 having a mare every week

And always will be.....and the best referee in the ground will be dressed in black( or whatever colour these days). ...and he will make 100 correct decisions in the game and a couple of wrong or debatable ones. ....and even the 2 he gets wrong supporters at one end will think are right

ChaddySmoker
Some people just like to be contrarian don't they.... Gives them a purpose I guess. Some people believe that referees/umpires have a very important role to play and therefore should be respected-even if they have an off day. We didnt lose to Shrewsbury because of the referee-we lost because we werent better than them by quite enough over 90 minutes. Our fans seem to be getting the ManUre affliction-very narrow minded and overly simplistic. Edited September 6, 2016 by ChaddySmoker
