HarryBosch
Any tips? Going for two nights midweek in October. Thinking in or near Bairro Alto to stay. Any bar, restaurant or hotel recommends?

NewBlue
We stayed in Alfama which is the old town. It's the area known for the fado singing - not everyone's cup of tea but it's probably worth experiencing. You'll hear it regardless of whether you like it... Hope you like fish. The restaurants weren't the best if you're not a fan, but with two days you'll be able to make do with the steaks. Would definitely recommend black Iberian pork. Not a massive fan of pork but without doubt the nicest cut of that meat I've ever had. Trip to Belem is a decent day out. Taxi drive away, but they're dead cheap. There are some really brilliant vantage points - Miradouro da Graça is worth a walk if you don't mind walking uphill... Enjoyed visiting museum of resistance and liberty to get a decent historical background to Portugal. It's round the corner from the old cathedral. Loads of churches as you'd expect - national pantheon you can go up to the top of the dome. Also stumbled upon Eusebio's tomb there... Wondered beforehand if we'd be struggling to fill out 4 days but it's actually quite easily done.
