Crusoe
Well, The Guardian's view of our record of Christmas matches makes for fun reading... https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2016/dec/24/oldham-boxing-day-blues-sheffield-united?CMP=share_btn_tw

BP1960
Southport, it turned out, also pulled off a stunning feat that season. Shipping 11 goals at Oldham, seven at Tranmere and six on four other occasions meant that the figure in their goals against column at the end of the season was the worst in the League – 106 – yet they still finished in mid-table, 13th out of 24 teams. It shows that no matter how many goals a team concedes in losing, they can survive if they score enough to win other matches. That is likely to be of little comfort to Oldham, who are presently the lowest scorers in the Football League. http://www.oldham-chronicle.co.uk/news-features/10/oldham-athletic/34858/sixhit-berts-magic-snow Edited December 24, 2016 by BP1960
Stevie_J
First time I saw Latics lose was on Boxing Day, at home to WBA. That 14/15 team look hard as nails. Don't think the current crop would much fancy facing them.

Diego_Sideburns
A friend of mine last went to BP on Boxing Day 1962 when Latics beat Southport 11-0. He says he won't go again, as he doesn't want to spoil the memory.
lookersstandandy
Boxing Days over my 30 years 1990 West Ham (A) L0-2 (crazy ko time?) Yep. Midday.... in East London. Madness. Me mam and I were on a Barlow's coach from Oldham town centre at 4am. We were greeted on Green Street by easterners throwing bottles at us while we had a police escort to the ground. Trevor Morley scored but I couldn't see who it was so I asked a steward and he said what sounded like "Shreva Mowli".

Frankly Mr Shankly
Yep. Midday.... in East London. Madness. Not only that but we played again in London 2-3 days after it, a 0-0 draw at Millwall where we were diddled out of a penalty by a bent ref. I went to both of them. The Football League shafted us that season in their fixture planning. Midweek aways at Swindon, Charlton and Leicester City IIRC. To be fair the only local matches we had were Barnsley and Port Vale. Lot of mileage that season but London away inbetween Christmas and New Year was a pisstake. We still took great followings. Does anyone have the recorded away attendances from that season? I reckon we more or less sold out at West Ham.
Andy b
Leicester away was on a sat but got called off due to snow hence was rearranged for midweek. I was supposed to go on the junior latics trip there

TheBigDog
Chesterfield 1998 was brutal weather Good result though! Sure was. Blowing a gale and I got absolutely soaked. Andy Holt had a good game. I remember £10s blowing about from an some drunk Oldham fan who had took his shirt off....I was in the early years of my (current) marriage and the missus joined me on the open terrace. Mistake. Even the half time Bovril was not enough. It took years to convince her to come along to another match...She still talks about the day though she cannot remember the result! rudemedic
Rotherham away was a madness Was it, there was a bit of a set too as stewards tried to get fans to sit in non-existent empty seats until common sense prevailed and they removed the cordon from seats they had actually sold.
