singe
No surprise in that he is signing today but hearing two and a half year contract. Noted.
NewBlue
Two and a half year deal Hmmm. Have we been done there?
singe
Lets hope that with Shez and Gerard we have a change in tactic and more longer term deals for the better players. Get Clarke extended (if whe agrees) nad we have a solid foundation.
Dick_Valentine
Heard a rumour of Clarke to Scunthorpe. Like they need him.

ChaddySmoker
Hmmm. Depends who you talk to on that one. I was happy to see him go. Didn't rate him but he was obviously used to illustrate how crap Winchester was/is/will always be! More accurately edited for the benefit of the Bambi lover. dec666
Not getting any younger, suspect he's come to his senses and swapped wage demands for the assurance of a longer contract.
astottie
Not getting any younger, suspect he's come to his senses and swapped wage demands for the assurance of a longer contract. and must have given up on waiting for Barca to come in for him
aaronoafc
Not that it's only our decision, but would have preferred 1.5 year deal
yarddog73
Don't understand why people knock him, even on here people are still sniping despite him being one of the main reasons we stayed up last year, great bit of business in my view. Simpo
He only turns 31 in February. Great signing.

A player that even when challenging for a 50/50 header still looks to find his own player. Very good footballing brain. Cracking signing ESPECIALLY on a longer deal. He's only 30 FFS

Or maybe Corney has accepted in some circumstances it's worth paying that little bit extra for some players

You can be both a decent league one centre-half and a bit of a knob.

Guest nonaenever
I don't think anyone would argue that he was, along with some other factors, fundamental in our staying up last season. You could see he wouldn't get bullied by anyone and had an arrogance about him that wound the opposition up good style. Part of me remains to be convinced that he and Clarke will be the perfect pairing (mainly because both like to be "the Daddy" and perhaps lack pace) but I really hope my lingering doubts in that regard are soon vanished. With Edmundson learning from these 2 (and a competent back-up) and Wilson able to cover as well - we look to have a very solid league one defensive base (a really strong left back aside?). At set plays too; Clarke and Gerrard forward together (with someone dropping back to cover) would strike fear into any opposition at this level - we haven't done that for a while. manshaw
Didn't Clarke and Gerard play together at Huddersfield? May be best buddies, which is why he has been training with us for 6 months, and waiting in the wings for a good deal.

You may be right but Morgan & Huth were effective enough last season just by remaining central, letting opposition have the ball out wide & winning everything in the middle. disjointed
Made up that he has committed to us, last season we saw what he brings to the table, him and Clarke should be the best defensive pairing in this league. Now we just need to bring Jose "home" next season perhaps with a Chris Taylor in there.
