Latics and England
This is a totally random thread for people who find themselves singing old songs and chants for no apparent reason (may well just be me). This morning I have woken up with this classic which I can't get out of my head: We signed the lad to score us goals Abbott, Abbott And Oldham was the team he chose Abbott, Abbott Like half of England, he's a Pole He gets the ball and he scores a goal Pavel Abbott, Oldham's number nine

Think the top one has a version with negative connotations for some Latics fans so it doesn't get sung anymore. Not heard "Keep the blue flag flying high" much, used to be a favourite of mine. Did we ever properly sing 10 men went to mow, or was that only on Junior Latics coaches? Think that's a slavery song though. There's the rarely covered second verse of Andy Ritchie's magic too
Frankly Mr Shankly
We will follow the Oldham O'er land and sea (AND LEICESTER!) We will follow the Oldham Onto victory (ALTOGETHER NOW) [Rinse and repeat] Was sung quite a few times during the pinch-me seasons. Unsure if the AND LEICESTER bit has any symbolic meaning or whether it's just a random team threw in by someone.

piglinbland
Leicester. Bitterness due to losing Alan Young to Leicester under the then-new 'Freedom of Contract' - and not helped by their fans destroying the Rochdale Road End during a night match. Was always feisty after that for many years. Edited February 11, 2017 by piglinbland

Nohairdontcare
My father used to say that when he was a kid people used to shout something that sounded to me like "lake-up Oldham!" to encourage the team. We're talking a long time ago here, but I'd be interested to know if anyone ever heard similar or knows where such an unusual phrase came from... leeslover
Laik is a norse word for play. You hear it a bit from the older generations across the North Might be onto something there. Apparently, "lecking out," is West Yorkshire for, "playing out." What is obviously hilarious.

I was wondering if it was my dad winding me up many years ago as I've never actually heard it or of it elsewhere... I'm heading over for the Millwall match at the end of the month - I might briefly revive it. Cheers for the info.
Latics and England
What song does the tune come from for our current Aaron Holloway song? It's being sung by everyone with various players and managers being inserted but I am so not down with the kids and have no idea what it is. As Kylie once nearly said, I just can't get it out of my head

If so I apologise we are the latics from lancashire we are the team that united fear And tonight we will make it clear oh so clear well run United inti the ground their own supporters won't make a sound someone should have told em that this team from oldhams the best teams in lancashire
