simplythemostimportantkick
Have a walk over Clayton before a game or better still have a peek at the pitches behind the old Red Barn on Crossley, they are some of many park pitches with more grass on them. Let's throw some big :censored: off rocks and broken glass on our pitch too then , worked wonders on them clearly.

BP1960
It's a disgrace at the moment. I've played on better lower league football pitches at this time of the year. A few of the players have mentioned it in terms of grinding out results on it as it's not suitable for pretty football so I think it does effect team selection. Why is it in such a poor state? it's hardly been overused this season.

Something to do with some pitch/grass/soil technology not having been updated or replaced.... £800k to do so, I think...

Better off with an artificial pitch, some good passing football played last night by Sutton and Arsenal. simplythemostimportantkick
Better off with an artificial pitch, some good passing football played last night by Sutton and Arsenal. Looked a cracker for an artificial pitch that. No way you could have slid on the old ones without taking your legs back to the bone. Used to dread getting in the bath after playing on failsworth astro. Think these pitches could be, the future of the game to be honest. Well at this level at least

simplythemostimportantkick
They're still pretty bad for your knees... Stopped playing ten years ago now due to injury. But even then the improvement was massive between 3G and the old style ones. I would guess they've come on even more and maybe scope for more development. Do they still have those horrible black rubber bits that get everywhere in em ?

mcfluff1985
Yes, and it causes a whole world of :censored: everytime I get home from playing... Same. Miles better pitches now though. The pitches are nice and soft and u can slide without tearing half your leg off.
Magic Mikey
Yes, and it causes a whole world of :censored: everytime I get home from playing... Oh yes, the black bobbly bits on the carpet row. My wife and I split up three years ago: I'm still tempted to sneak a bit of rubber crumb into her house when I pick the kids up. Hometownclub
You wouldn't know whether to grow spuds or rice on the Red Barn pitches Yeah, played on them hundreds of times in the 80's and 90's, they were dreadful. Clayton and Snipe Clough were no better either.

yarddog73
Red Barns pitches have been totally relaid at a cost of £500,000, they are in great condition compared to our sandpit that's seen only nine games played on it since the start of November. boundaryblue80
It was meant to have been worked on last summer (if I recall correctly, they take off the top layer and put a fresh one on) but we hadn't paid the last bill. So in the end the pitch was only re-seeded. That's what I got told anyway. Cue derision.
yarddog73
On the plus side it's still better than Newports.
View Of Golden Gate
IIRC the pitch is essentially out of date, and a totally new one should have been put in a few years ago. It means it doesn't absorb water the way it should, the groundstaff work incredibly hard but they are fighting a losing battle. No doubt someone will prove me wrong, this is just what I have heard. Monty Burns
Yeah it's like four years past its full replacement date now. We have just been doing bare minumum each summer. There's a metaphor somewhere..
Monty Burns
I think we might struggle to get saturdays game on, with all the rain heading our way in the coming days.
