A good season could produce this imo. Be interesting to see the average away attendances over the same period. Not sure where to find it?? lookersstandandy
....you also need to factor in, travelling support at Home games. By my reckoning, our average Home attendance this season has been a nudge over 3,600, which is disappointing. our average Away support this season has been a little over 600, or about circa 17% of our Home gate, which places us no 1 out of 24 League 1 teams on that metric. This means the average Away attendance at SPD.comP - bolstered by Bratfud, Blunts, Bucket Shakers, Wanky Wanderers and Dogdale - has been about 900 this season. Which, if only Sheffield United leave us, could be higher still if the Plastics and B@stard Rovers come down, with Donny, possibly Blackpool and even though they're some distance away, Pompy and the Pilgrims who both travel well. Where did you get the away % figure from. I noticed a Dale fan was saying they have the best away % following.

Team Away % of Home Rank Oldham 608 17% 1 Scunthorpe 665 17% 2 Rochdale 433 17% 3 Northampton 879 16% 4 Bury 468 16% 5 AFC Wimbledon 637 16% 6 Oxford 1083 14% 7 Peterborough 626 13% 8 Bolton 1698 13% 9 Port Vale 503 12% 10 Bristol Rovers 1056 12% 11 Sheff Utd 2427 12% 12 Millwall 937 11% 13 Walsall 446 10% 14 Southend 694 10% 15 Coventry 845 10% 16 Gillingham 504 9% 17 Charlton 832 8% 18 Shrewsbury 400 8% 19 Swindon 517 8% 20 Chsterfield 377 7% 21 Bradford 1285 7% 22 Fleetwood 162 6% 23 MK Dons 449 5%
Magister
How many grounds did Sheffield sell out at thus diminishing their ability to take more than our 17%.

mikeroyboy
The 4514 figure being up on last season is interesting. My educated (debatable) guess is the club made circa £200, 000 profit by taking more match day cash from home support based on 1,000 fans declining to renew at full price on the wing and a prayer of a potential refund and threat of league 2 football. Hence our ability to get Shez back and sign Clarke and Gérard on long term contracts.
opinions4u
Do those numbers include Saturday's? If not, Dale win. dont tell them.
yarddog73
Nobody has considered the free game against Posh which added around 200 to the average home attendances figure. As for 17/18 I reckon on an average pushing 5000 depending on how kind the fixture list is to us. Edited April 24, 2017 by yarddog73

You're correct, it was 743 last year...... which was nearer 20%..... however we lost Barnsley, Blackpool, Donny & Wigan, where we took decent numbers...... Good question, dunno. They took 4,300 to both Bolton & Port Vale and 7,500 to MK Dons on Sat'day. Top of the league or not, seriously impressive. I used to love the days when we took as many..... They only brought 250 to us - but it was a midweek game...... they topped 1,000 on 6 occasions, at Cov, MK Mongs, Peterboro, Sheff Utd, Charlton & Oxford..... all achievable within or just over an hour. I thought it interesting to note the dirty red b@stards and Citeh not playing on Saturday could have contributed to a few floating Oldham'ers turning up for a the team they used to watch, instead of the one they now watch. I'm not particularly advocating it, however one could create an argument for playing Home games on a Friday night (like Tranmere & Stockport? used to), Sat or Sun luchtime or evening, to maximise these 'supporter' numbers. disjointed
I dont think there is an argument for playing Sat or Sun lunchtime or evening, there may have been good reasons for playing Friday nights (used to love a friday night fixture myself) but with shift work being the norm it may impact negatively playing on a Friday. This is all guesswork on my behalf and shouldn't be taken as fact.

Wasn't it Blackburn at home on a Friday evening where it was flashing up the 'Please Joe, Don't Go' message on the scoreboard? It was when BFJ was being linked with the Everton job. We beat them 2-0 I think. I think it must have been the 'Pinch Me' season. The season after (the Championship season) we drew with them 1-all. One of the few home matches that season where we didn't steamroller the opposition.
