I was lucky - they caught it early and a few months on I’m pretty well back to normal. I didn’t have any symptoms other than a PSA that was creeping upwards, though not particularly high. First few days after the op were a bit challenging but the NHS has been fantastic. So yes, get checked asap after you hit 50 and don’t take no for an answer (some GP surgeries are reluctant to do PSA tests at that age but it’s your right). You are very lucky boy - It was thought my cancer had left the gland with a PSA of 182 on diagnosis - I am on one of the other treatment paths - Hormone Therapy and Radio Therapy. Prostate Cancer lives on Testosterone so if you have no Testosterone it can't feed and gets killed off - hence the hormone therapy (there are side effects - hot flushes, you grow a pair, erectile dysfunction, you can cry for England etc) and then 20 blasts on the "sunbed" to kill the bastards off properly. I am 23 months into my 36 months of Hormone Therapy. My thanks go to the Royal Oldham and North Manchester General Hospitals and The Christy at Oldham - I agree the NHS has been fantastic, so has MacMillan Cancer Support. (So much so that I am now a Prostate Cancer volunteer with MacMillan's online Community!!). Lads - Get tested and if there are ANY issues with the waterworks - do something about it!!!!!! Best wishes - Brian Edited December 2, 2023 by Millibob Spelling (as usual!!)

Cheers Glossop - To be honest it's not too bad if you can keep a positive attitude - there's no pain (apart from the biopsy) and it's better than the alternative as the treatment is being given as "curative" so happy days. Best wishes - Brian.
Bobledgersheart
Best wishes for a complete recovery from me too. As for the positivity bit it should be a piece of cake for any Latics fan !!

Best wishes - Brian. Been there, done that Millibob. And you're right about positive attitude. It certainly helped me through it and you will be pleased to know it gets better. After finishing the hormones and radiotherapy I've reversed the weight gain, lost the man boobs, feel good with annual PSA down to 0.02 and have been signed off by the specialists. Probably owe my life to Bill Turnbull and Stephen Fry for highlighting the issue - and a nagging wife for not letting me ignore symptoms. Best of luck for your recovery.

Yes, I forgot the weight gain - but that's managed now - Well done for staying the course, I am a full 3 years due to high PSA and being a Gleason 9 but yes - Attitude - you do need it. I say again lads - get checked - to lose your dignity is better than losing your life. Best wishes Boyyou - Regards - Brian.

When my dad had Parkinsons and Bells Paulsy, he was renamed "Shaking Stevens" or "our man in Easter Island". This was from his best mates. He didn't have time to feel sorry for himself and he loved it. My doc is Indian who has also gone through treatment plans for prostate related issues. When he explains how to fill up the poop scoops, it's like a stand up routine which usually ends with "or you can just ignore me and tell me I am talking shit". The issues are serious. However, humour begats positivity.
Pidge
Maybe we should have a separate topic for prostate cancer issues. I’d be happy to answer questions as I’m and expert now . Seeing as one in 8 of us blokes will have a problem as some point!
Millibob
I would second that @Pidge I just don't want any man to go through what I have been through - yes i am on a curative treatment plan and thanks to the NHS and MacMillan Cancer Support I am in a great place. As I said above I volunteer for MacMillan's on "MacMillan Online Community" on the Prostate Cancer forum - yes we talk about Prostate Cancer - we also talk about football - but you can join us there and ask any questions you want - we talk about issues you may not want to talk about with you wife or your partner or your mates in the pub. Search for the Macmillan Online Community and once there The Prostate Cancer Forum if you need to speak to me - my user name is "Millibob" You can also PM me on here if you are worried or just want a chat about it. Get tested lads - it's a simple blood test at the GP's and if you are 50 or over your G P can't refuse you a PSA test. It's better to find out NOW than later. Best wishes - Brian. Maybe whoever makes it could take up my film script, 'Home Banker', as part of the deal. It's about an exiled Northerner who gets involved in a rescue attempt for his bankrupt hometown football club. A mystery where that came from... Bank of Dave was a good read, but an absolute shocker of a film!
