Cue triallist no 2 appearing on the team sheet!!! DU said attracting loan players from high up the leagues was difficult, especially in the mess we were in internally, but we're a more attractive proposition now. That said, the loan players we attracted last season were simply gaps to plug. Peck looked out of his depth. Chapman, who looked classy on fleeting glimpses, struggled to impose himself on games. Timmy Abraham, the more he played, the more we saw how much he lacked composure. Peter Clarke is a club legend but his legs had just about gone and was reduced to the bench after that brainfart in the FA Trophy. Sambou was a bit of desperation after losing Fondop to suspension and always faded quickly after Ramadan sapped his energy. I'm perfectly satisfied we're not immediately plunging into the loan market if I'm honest.
Frankly Mr Shankly
Furthermore. Other loan signings last season. Joe McGlynn Mitchell Roberts Oscar Threlkeld Charlie Wellens David Okagbue Conor Carty James Carragher Big list of mediocrity, that.

Yeah, me too, didn't he get a bad injury and go back to his club? Or am I getting confused.
philsalt
Had to look up Joe McGlynn. See he’s now at Hamilton Academical.
Dave_Og
Last decent set of loanees were Iversen, Surridge, Lang and Lyden. Quality fell off a cliff after that season. Edited July 24, 2023 by Dave_Og

Loan players should be players you can't afford so in effect should be better than what you have. The scouting system is now in place where we could be picking up a talented right back for example without paying a fee which we seem to have been trying to do with Ogle. penrhyn
Yes but as Unsworth has said PL clubs are unwilling to let players drop down to league 5. Also I would prefer our strongest eleven to be our own . With loan players supplementing for injuries , supensions, and loss of form.
Gaz_Oafc
at least that one's put to bed (although it was earlier by Unsworth on the podcast)
Hemel latic
I liked Unsworth's rationale that if he's going to sign a loan he needs a player he's confident can come straight into a promotion seeking team.

Doesn't sound like it was ever as close as some were making out, although we did make him "an unbelievable offer". Hopefully, if we've got the money to chuck an unbelievable offer out to the right player, there still maybe a marquee signing to come! True Tic
Three more players wanted and DU has identified who he wants . Sounds really positive and moreover we are actually an attractive proposition again

True Tic
I wonder when we are likely to see the 3 additions DU spoke of. It might be 4 if the rumours are true about Lundstram and his injury
