MATCH: Gateshead (H) 26/08/24

Recommended Posts

Turned it off after that pass hit the post. We were never going to win after that and the fact that we couldn't beat them is yet another sign why we won't go up.

Champions put teams like that to bed Gateshead were wank and when we stopped treating them like Man City then they crumbled.

Break the bank for Stones if we want to be serious about having promotion aspirations.

A lot better second half. A little unlucky as should have got the second. Positives for sure but only an ok start. 1 win from 3 at home isn’t going cut it. We certainly won’t be chesterfield last season and romp the league but can certainly be up there around top 7

An OK point, happy with the performance overall.

The 2nd half showed why I'm OK for them to out-pass us, because when the tempo and physicality increases they struggle to maintain it.  They are probably the best team with the ball on the floor in the league, but the cost of that is flaws in other areas.

We're an improvement on last season, the only frustration is that I think this seasons improvement will be steady and gradual rather than explosive and instant.

First half utter tripe.....credit where it's due, completely different second half.  Mellon obviously got into them at half time.

Played with more intensity and pressured them from the front.  We were much higher up the pitch.

How we don't score a second or even a third is very unlucky.  Gateshead hanging in for long periods of second half.  Lots of good passing and movement.  Was night and day from half to half.

Some that up, rubbish first but very good second half bar putting our opportunities away.

Couldn't quite tell if their goal was a clear off side or not, very glad that it was though!

You’re spot on Bosh.

That game is the perfect example.

We are still lacklustre in our mentality, the same players who look miles off it first half completely dominate the second half. That isn’t a lack of talent, it’s still needing a rocket to perform.

Bit odd that the highest attendance so far was the Tuesday night game.

Maybe people had other things to do on a family day rather than football. A shame the lads couldn't capitalise on the second half performance but, as already been said, it's probably going to be a steady improvement rather than instant and Mellon needs to have them itching from the kick-off. Get Stones in and all could change rather quickly.

All-in-all, much preferable the draw than what would most likely have been a loss last season.
[I know..stop harking back].
