Captain defensive doesn't care much for the podcast does he, fucking hell he needs to lighten up a bit as he's becoming a bit touchy - again.

I've got to say of all the managers we've had who've had to work with less than fuck all this man gets a free ride, in a calender year he's provided four home wins after Thompson give us two in four days just prior.

Anyone else would have been hounded out of town and that's a fact, we're losing fans hand over fist yet he's still been backed to the hilt and given full autonomy despite his ramblings, when's he going to own his part in all this then or is it always going to be forever somebody else's fault?.

This next couple of months could be the defining period. Everything might fall into place and we go on a long winning run or the poor run could continue.

I really haven’t a clue which it will be and I don’t think MM knows either.

If I was a betting man I think my money would be on the latter!

It's hardly a surprise, is it? They were critical of him before he even got the job and the guy who interviews him for the pod was very scathing of Mellon, and his tactics, on Twitter at the end of last season from the phone in account...

Bang on the money. And then he tried to claim he was joking. I have a dry sense of humour that gets me in trouble but if that constituted joking then the Sahara is like the Atlantic Ocean

I wasn't aware of that but still he knows how it works, after the shite at the back end of last season when he was critical of just about anything but himself I thought he'd be the bigger man and suck it up particularly now it's his to own.

I really hope he turns it round and gets the right tune out of the players because we can't afford another failure but awkward questions are likely to come in when we can't even manage one home win in five over his time at the club and we've lost around 2000 fans in the process.

I'd describe it as passive aggressive, he knew what he was doing, like he did embarrassingly with Alan at the back end of last season, fair play to Dave though for asking him the question.

Tough for the podcast lads though isn’t it. On one hand they’re the voice of the fans and have to be honest with their criticism when performances are below par and on the other hand they interview him every week. Difficult balance to strike.

I don't know if we can pin that one on him.  I'm not sure the attendances announced reflect the actual number of people in the ground...

Starting to have my doubts about Mellon.  If not Mellon, something else at the club.  Can the three permanent managers the new board have overseen really be that bad? Or is it the way the club is being run that's the issue?  I don't doubt any intentions, like...

Mellon was happy out of the game before we came knocking, wasn't he?  Is his heart still in it?  I hope he can get us going....but it is blind hope.

What do you put the drastic fall in attendance down to then? 2000 is probably over egging it but we are certainly more than 1000 paying customers down, even Saturday saw our smallest home attendance for some time with only 5200 home fans which is a worry given it was a fair day in September just seven games in.

I think it's more likely that the drastic increase when the Rothwell's took over was a bit of a false one, with many coming because of the hope that the new ownership would bring instant success. Although they will be minor factors, I don't think the current fall in attendance is to do with the price, the pies or the style of play. I just think it's down to results. A proper promotion season and consistently competing at the top should see us back to 6500/7000 but I'm not sure we'd go much beyond that unless we're competing at the top in league one and have much more attractive opposition to watch.

You've answered your own question - 2,000 is probably over egging it.

The key factor is how we're playing definitely, but it's not a sudden decline since Mellon's taken over.  We've been pretty dire (on the pitch anyway) since the takeover.  Chuck in the increase in season-ticket prices, how much it is to get in on the day and the price/quality of catering and I don't think you can lay all the blame at Mellon's door...

I'm probably in a very small minority here but I really like what Mellon says in interviews. I thought Dave's question was loaded - essentially saying "we can all see it, we should play 2 up top, do you see it now?". If Dave had asked him about whether he'd prefer to play 2 if more strikers were fit or something like that I think we'd have heard a less spiky answer.

I like how Mellon talks about football, it comes across to me as knowledgable, well thought out and calm.

I can't imagine it's an easy one to get your head around. On one hand you're labelled a tactical dinosaur, but when you play 3 at the back, a box midfield with high wing backs you have a load of experts saying you should just play 442.  I'd rather he tackle the simple answer brigade and explain his thinking than just ignoring it and spewing out a load of fake arse kissing.

With Dave - he always been spikey. As was Unsworth. Matt and Andy are more balanced and bigger picture. Dave just says what he is feeling.

Matt said Mellon had collered Dave after the predication pod and Said- ‘was it you who predicated 11th’ Dave said yeah and he replied ‘we’ll see’ so there is a subtext to their conversation’s. Mellon knows Dave doesn’t really rate him or his football, so is giving a bit back. I have no problem with that. If the pod think they criticise and he should give them content without giving Dave some back, that’s naive.

I do think it’s poor when Mellon has done it with Alan- who is very courteous and respectful and never asks anything to invasive. But he still gets smart arsed replies on occasion. No need.

That’s exactly what it was. Mellon knows what Dave is implying, (while he gives them free content) and put him in his place a bit.

No issue there.

Knowledgeable yes. Calm… mmm 🤔

Maybe calm is not quite the right word? I think he’s got a level headed confidence about him. So calm in a sense of I don’t see him panicking and drastically changing what he’s been doing because we’ve had a few too many draws. I like that style in leaders personally.

He says absolutely nothing that we can’t already see!! I just think he blags his way through them.

He knows what good looks like so the players he’s signed shouldn’t need telling that…

”We need to pass it forward”

“We need to take more risks”

”We need to have more tempo”

“We need to move the ball quicker”

“We need better decision making”

“We need to win football matches”

Fuck me, Micky Mellon……specialist subject, the bleeding obvious!!

If the players aren’t doing these things already then maybe he’s brought in the wrong players?

I’m very underwhelmed by the guy and he needs massive improvements ………starting tonight!

Mistook Long Distance Latics for James Weslowski once in the Paddock. Good listen, as per.

Was he running around like an headless chicken - only joking.

Coincidentally Wes was one of Mickys first signings when he took over at Shrewsbury.

I think I'd run through prickly, defensive, arrogant and quite a few other words before I got to calm
